5. Commission merchant, imports French goods Melville Allan-80634 (Thomas , Progenitor ) was born in 1782. He died in 1832.

He had a felt and fur business. He is of New York, and dies "bankrupt and raving", mental illness being part of a general breakdown. He is taken to be a son of Major Thomas Melville of a colourful Boston family, Thomas a venerable survivor of Boston Tea Party. See US website on ancestors of William Addams Reitwiesner.

Allan married Gansevoort Maria-126569 daughter of Brig-General Gansevoort Peter-257123 and van Schaak Catherine-257126. Maria was born in 1791 in Albany NY. She died in 1872.

Allan and Maria had the following children:

He went bankrupt with the fammily business in 1837. He tries politics.
  12 M iii Lawyer Melville Allan Jnr-257121.

He moved into the house at Arrowhead when Herman and family moved out. One Allan Melville once had a letter from Richard Henry Dana Jnr (1815-1882) dated 10 May 1853
  13 M iv Melville Thomas-382924.

One Thomas Melville marries Kate Elizabeth Bogert in 1868. He is captain of the clipper. Meteor, and Herman once sails with him round Cape Horn.

Mary married Captain mariner Traveller across Siberia DeWolf John-444604 son of DeWolf Simon-444599 and May Hannah-444603. John was born in 1779. He died in 1872.

He connected with Baron Nicholas von Resanoff, a "large proprietor of the Russian-American Co" which bought Juno and its remaining cargo for $68,000 (she then sailed for Canton). John returning 1808 made an overall profit of $100,000 on this trip andhe continued in the Russia trade.
