Contractor as a commissary. He has a brother unnamed who "owns a bank". See Kynaston in City of London, p. 54, re this man's close links to Nathan Rothschild. Booker's table on Herries indicates this man is linked to Herries of the bank Herries Farquar. Which is right? His own DNB entry. He becomes secretary to Vansittart by 1801-1807. He appears to be no relation to Ferries/Farquhar bankers. He is noted briefly in Edna Healy on Coutts. He became auditor of the Civil List (hence dealt with Coutts as royal bankers?). He is able in the fields of admin, rooting out corruption, and enabling subsidy payments to allies, which latter came to £42.5 million, half of it handled by Nathan Meyer Rothschild. [This was about the time Alexander Davison had to defend himself against charges of peculation - see note on John Maberley qv]. p. 169, Emsley notes the Napoleonic wars cost Britain £1500 million.
