Per Linda Minor. There was a James Hargreaves in Lancashire who applied for a patent on the spinning jenny (denied) about 1770. In 1764 Alexander Brown was born in Belfast, which became the flax spinning capital of the world at about this time. Alexander's son William set up export shipping trade in Liverpool (Lancashire) and married his daughter Grace to a Hargreaves (no relation found but methinks it likely). The Brown family proceeded to get rich off the linen import-export trade. Baltimore exports were cotton and tobacco to Liverpool. Grace Brown Hargreaves (Mrs. John) had two sons--Thomas and John - - both connected to military regiments. Their many children seem to have close ties to Britain's military, very upper crust defenders of the Crown. My interest is how these aristocrats may have been connected to their relatives in America - through Brown Brothers, Harriman (merger in 1925) and through Alex. Brown bank in Baltimore (now Deutsche Bank). We know the Bush family was dependent upon Brown Bros. Harriman and helped finance Nazis. We know Alex. Brown is now German-controlled. Was there a hidden Nazi link there as well? Does it relate to this Hargreaves connection to military? - Linda
