Descendants of Morris Progenitor 2010-522916

Third Generation

3. Slaver, tobacco merchant, Of Liverpool Morris Robert-95570 (Andrew , Progenitor 2010 ) was born in 1711 in Liverpool England. He died in 1750 in America.

He began as an iron worker. He is a friend of tradesman Robert Greenway. His son Robert has a half-brother Thomas died Jan 1778 who was given to drink. This man had a reputation as a commercial genius, introduced the inspection law on toboacco against opposition and the idea of keeping accounts in money terms, not in pounds weight of tobacco. But he was haughty, overbearing, vindictive, overly severe on his servants. He is an agent for Liverpool Mayor, Foster Cuncliffe qv, of Foster Cunliffe and Sons, tobacco merchants and slavers. His son Robert may have been illegitimate? Notes for Robert the financier, continued, he from a website personally purchased army and navy supplies, to finance Washington for the Yorktown campaign of 1781 he got a sizeable loan from France, part of which was used, with some of his own money (10,000 l), to organize Bank of North America, a chartered bank, and the first govt-incorporated bank in US, it aided war financing (subscribers such as John Maxwell Nesbitt, later with Insurance Co of North America). (There had been disastrous shortages of lead, for bullets.) One financial friend of Morris was Haym Salomon (Jewish, most prominent Jew of the Am Rev, born Poland, who grew rich by association with Morris, he did not arrive in Philly till 1774, but died in poverty within years, he ran ships (privateers), maybe speculated in curency?). See article, Marko Junkermann (of Univ of Joensuu, Finland), 'Living an American Lifestyule in 18th Century Philadelphia - Robert Morris, Prosperous Merchant and Family Man. EURAmerica, Vol. 35, No 3, (Sept). 2005, pp. 459-499. Institute of European and American Studies, Academia Sinica. a web rumour is that Morris was worth more than Bill Gates would be worth today!
