Is a Commissary to the French army arriving in America in 1780. He once in 1799 had a duel with Aaron Burr, was unscathed, and he put a bullet through Burr's coat that missed Burr's body. Burr used Church's pistols in his later duel with Hamilton. See Thomas Fleming, Duel, Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr and the Future of America. Reissued about 2001. He is English in Chernow article on Robert Morris, p. 213. John Barker Traitor/Church/ MP - He is in 1774 a London grocer who flees to America to escape creditors, as bankrupted, later he serves as commissary general to French army sent to assist Americans in revolution, built a fortune, returned to England, became gent of leisure. Was one of Charles Fox's gambler friends and lent him much money.
