3. Commander, MLC, Royal Exchange Lamb John-35583 (Captain , ) was born in 1790 in Penrith. He died in 1862. He was buried in St Jude's, Randwick.
Code-Aust. He is of See some lines in Leasks Austn Genealogies. He is noted as an early Sydney business figure in Lyons on co-founders of the Royal Exchange, Business Archives Council of Australia, pp. 5-6, Vol. 1, No. 3, May 1957. Mowle's Genealogy, p. 99. For Buckles BandB he is captain of convict ship Baring Sept 1815 and June 1819, and in 1825-1828 he is master of merchant ship Palmira on Indian service, thus gaining money to partner with Walter Buchanan. He has an uncle in navy, William Buchanan, with whom he had sailed. He returned to England in 1814 on naval half pay and partnered with his uncle Buchanan, forming an assoc with Buckle, Buckle, Bagster and Buchanan, the Buchanan being his cousin Walter Buchanan (?). With his cousin Walter Buchanan he formed house of Lamb, Buchanan and Co. he came to Sydney as its partner ewith his wife on ship Resource in May 1829, expecting to remain ten years. he was earlier acquainted with Gov Gipps before he met Gipps again in NSW. He became an active campaingner against the pollutant of convict transportation. His partnership with Walter Buchanan was dissolved in 1834 and he carried on alone as Lamb and Co, woolen brokers and shipping agents. In 1837 he took a partner, Frederick Parbury. Lamb linked with the Sydney Alliance Assurance Co, Australian Fire and Life Assurance Co, Sydney Railway Co. several times chairman of Commercial Banking Co of Sydney. in 1851-52 he was a founder and first chairman of the Sydney Chamber of Commerce and of the Royal Exchange. He lived at Miller's Point, close to his wharf and stores at Darling Harbour. in 1855 he retired with a large fortune and returned to England, built a house at Clapham Park near London. returned to Sydney two years later, became MLA. had eight sons and six drs. eldest son Walter a director of Commercial Banking Co. John married Robinson Emma Trant-3124 daughter of Merchant, Dep-chair Lloyd's of London Robinson John-8489 and RNotknown Miss-8490 on 3 Mar 1823 in Islington,London. Emma was born about 1803 in Holloway London. She died on 27 Aug 1880. She was buried in Randwick,Cemetery.
