10. Banker, Hope of Amsterdam Hope Henry-48775 (Henry , John , John , Progenitor 2010 ) was born about 1581 in Craighall Co Fife. He was christened in 1794 in active.

Kindleberger here op. 215 says in 1781 with fourth Anglo-Dutch War, Amsterdam capital market dealings with Hope and Co material from Riley 1980 and Buist of 1974. In 1803 when US bought Louisiana, Barings in England, and Hopes in Amsterdam and London, bought the American bonds from the French for 52 million francs, with a six million franc down payment, and 2 million francs per month for two years. By 1802, some 2 million francs came from Willing and Francis of Philadelphia, See Buist, 1974, p. 58. Labouchere of Hopes Amsterdam perhaps outsmarted Napoleon re his Russia debts and Napoleon gave a discount to Barings/Hopes. More complex was a Hope and Co deal involving a Spanish indemnity paid to France, by way of Mexico, see Kindleberger here, p. 236-238. Hope and Co. of Holland were associated in England with the old Orange, pro-English party. From this man is descended Sir Theodore Cracroft Hope, KCSI. He has three brothers. Labaree p. 10, at time of Boston Tea Party are Thomas and Adrian Hope, Robert Herries at age 23 was assisted to set up as a brandy merchant in Barcelona in 1754 by Hope and Co. of Amsterdam.
