6. Merchant Edinburgh Hope Henry-114154 (John , John , Progenitor 2010 ) was born about 1540 in Boston. He died in 1591 in Circa.
He in one view is born in Edinburgh. Henry Hope died 1591. He and wife witness in France the St Bartholomew's Day Massacre of Huguenoets and repair to Scotland. He is of French descent in entry on in Englsh DNB 2004 edition. One view is that the Hopes were Scots who went to Boston, then to Amsterdam. His father may also be Edward Hope, time Queen Mary, promoter of the Reformation, a 1560 Commr for Metropolis to Parlt for Edinburgh where Edward is a magnate. His father can also be seen as Edward Hope of Edinburgh, a descendant of one John De Hope who came to Scotland in time of Magdalene Queen of James V. A promoter of the Reformation. The family is supposed to stem from Frenchman, John de Hope, who came to Scotland with the train of Magdalene who married King James V in 1536-1537, and married Elizabeth Cummins, and had son, Edward, who had son Henry who married Jacqueline de Tott. However, there are some claims that members of this de Hope family were in Scotland before Magdalene arrived as given here qv.
