10. convict contractor, Lord Mayor, sea biscuit manufacture, Wapping, Freemason, Sir Bart1 Curtis William-14493 (Joseph , James , William , Progenitor 2013 ) was born in 1752. He was christened on 7 Feb 1752. He died on 18 Jan 1829 in Cliff House,Ramsgate,London.

Contractor. Code-red. "vice-regal notes". His own entry in English DNB 2004 edition, item by Norman Gash. Hodson lists. He is of Southgate in http by Tony Fuller, see re EICO docks and John Woolmore qv. See Gillen, Founders, does he have a nephew William a seaman on Lady Penrhyn, has a son Wm Curtis by Mary Branham, child taken to London on Gorgon by Lt Ralph Clark who also had a child Alicia by Mary Branham. He is Freemason of Dundee Arms Lodge No. 9, same lodge as his brother, initiated 11 Dec 1777, about 4 yrs after his brother Timothy is initiated. Note a line re later intermarriage with Brooke of Sarawak. See his line from Hales of Woodchurch. Burke's Peerage. His own obituary, The Gentleman's Magazine, March, 1829, which says he had two wives.

Hope, p, 133, he sat as MP for London almost continuously from 1790 to 1826. p. 137, p. 137, in December 1816 when Matthew Wood a chief magistrate was Lord Mayor, at time of the Spa Fields Riots, Wood a sympathizer for reform went out to riots, when he returned, an ill Sir William Curtis had gone down to the Mansion House to offer any advice found useful. His penchant for the sea and sailing is noted in Fulford, Glyn's, pp. 88ff; and as the founder of bank Robarts, Lubbock and Co. Burke's Extinct, p. 29. See Smiths the Bankers, p. 94, p. 306. This man helped found bank Robarts, Were, and Co. which by 1914 had been absorbed by Coutts and Co when a Coutts and Co director is John Lindsay Eric Smith of the family of Smith, Payne Smths. qv. and elsewhere re Phoenix Fire Office a client of the Smith-Payne bank. Trebilcock, p. 66, Robarts Curtis Were and Co., bankers moved in 1797 to No, 15 Lombard St, almost next door to Phoenix insurance. in 1797 the sister insurance company, Pelican, opened just across the road. Trebilock p. 53; another Phoenix man is Christian Combe a former corn factor turned brewer in partnership with George Shum and by 1800, Shum, Combe and Delafield had one of London's most considerable breweries. Combe reputed to be worth £100,000, became a Lord Mayor London and a close drinking and gambling companion of Sir William Curtis. See Trebilock p. 50, This Curtis an original Phoenix shareholder by 1787, he is a self-made financier and via his link with bank Robarts, Curtis. Were and Co was a banker to Phoenix; he was a close friend to Phoenix director George Shum, the refiner-brewer, son of a Presbyterian baker, Curtis had made money with sea biscuits and the Greenland fishery. he left a fortune of £300,000, sherrif of London in 1789, Lord Mayor 1795-1796, MP for City 1790-1818. Leader of Tory party in the City, he had a mansion at Ramsgate, Trebilcock p. 43, Curtis here is son of a powerful Phoenix early shareholder. He is partly responsible for provoking the Nootka Crisis. William married wife2 Constable Anne-14494 daughter of Of London Constable Edward-39817 and Windsor Sarah-39818 on 9 Nov 1776. Anne was born on 7 Feb 1767. She died on 7 May 1853.

She dies 1833 in English DNB 2004 edition entry on her husband. Burke's Extinct, p. 29. Pemberton, London Connection re AACo, p. 367.

+ 20 M iv Sir Bart2 Banker Curtis William-14634 was born on 2 Mar 1782. He died on 16 Mar 1847.

He is Freemason in same lodge as his brother Wm, Timothy initiated about 1773. Per Pennie Pemberton's material.

Timothy married Cousin Wildbore Elizabeth-7228 daughter of Of Nottingham Wildbore Cornelius-39810 and Of Wanstead Curtis Elizabeth-536410 in London,probably. Elizabeth died in 1769.

13. Rev, Bengal, India Curtis Charles-48702 (Joseph , James , William , Progenitor 2013 ) was born in 1784. He died in 1829.

Pemberton research. Hodson lists. Burke's Peerage for Sir Wm Curtis, Bart1. He dies the same year as his brother William, 1829, according to William's obituary. His own obituary also.

Charles married (1) wife1 Wilde Dorothy-48703 daughter of Rev of Bell Broughton, Worcestershire Wilde John-330932 and Tennant Mary-70953. Dorothy was born about 1760. She died in 1795.

She is dr2.

Charles and Dorothy had the following children:

He is a senior merchant in India and a Judge of Nuddeah, in Bengal.
