5. Merchant Brown James II-227364 (James I , John , Chad , Progenitor ) was born in 1698 in Rhode Island. He died in 1739.

James married Power Hope-227365 daughter of Power Nicholas-344652 and Thallinghast Mercy-344653. Hope was born in 1701/1702. She died in 1792.

She has six children.

James and Hope had the following children:

+ 7 M i Brown Nicholas I-227362 was born in 1729. He died in 1791.
  8 M ii Brown Joseph-344662.
  9 M iii Slave trader Brown John-344663.

http://www.rihs.org/ . A merchant of Providence Rhode Island. On 5 August 1797 he became the first American tried under the US Slave Act of 1794, re his ship Hope in the Africa trade, taking slaves to Cuba, 229 slaves. One of his accusers is his brother Moses, a Quaker and a determined anti-slaver.

6. Merchant Brown Obadiah-344651 (James I , John , Chad , Progenitor ) was born in 1712. He died in 1762.

He is of Providence Rhode Island. His firm dealt in spermaceti, rum, iron furnace, and at least one slave voyage in 1759. Sugar/mollasses and in slave trade.

Obadiah married BNotknown Miss-344665.

They had the following children:
