With Cook, Nootka Sound fur trader Ledyard John-14860 was born in 1751 in Groton CT. He was christened in ,Dickinson. He died in 1789 in Cairo. He is on Cook's third voyage, and his book on those travels was the first great travel story by any American. He is credited with inspiring the US to Nootka fur trade in Gibson, Otter, p. 38-39.
