In 1804-1811 he goes into Prince of Wales' Light Dragoons, later the POW's 10th Royal Hussars. He is a keen runner and noted horse rider, sportsman, follows boxing. He was briefly on "Lion" a 65-ton man of war. Then a student lawyer, which doesn't last. He is friends with Byron the poet. He lives at Brighton in 1808. In 1809 he turns 21, In 1810 he visits poet Byron in Athens, Greece. In 1809 he comes into money and by 1813 is broke. His marriage to Frances Annesley is part convenience, she escapes her "ill-tempered family". From 1811-1816 he lives in Dorset. Byron falls in love with his wife, Frances. (Medora in Byron's book "The Corsair" is based on Frances.) Wedderburn borrows £1000 from Byron and never repays it, which rankles Byron. Wedderburn goes back into Army as a Lt, in 9th Dragoons. By 1915 the Byron/Frances affair is a well-known scandal. He removes to Scotland, living near Sir Walter Scott, whose father thought he was pest. Then to Nantes in France, then back to Picadilly in London. Then in a duel with Stanhope Lord Petersham on 21 April 1821. Wedderburn by now seems a friend of George IV. He presents George IV with George's genealogy, for which George knights him in1822, the year his wife Frances leaves. Wedderburn pursues Lady Ann Hardy, wife of Admiral Hardy. W then tries to reconcile with Frances, with Byron as mediator. In 1823 Byron dies in Greece. By 1825 W is broke again, at this time calling himself Sir Bart5 of Blackness, he takes to writing pamphlets. In 1827 he lives in Scotland. In 1828 he is asking Duke of Wellington for money, having met Wellington at time of Battle of Waterloo. Then came the case of Wedderburn vs Wedderburn, on which Dickens in Bleak House of 1853 based Jarndyce vs Jarndyce. This is against the partners of Wedderburns for money allegedly not given to W's father, David. The suit dragged on for 26 years, till 1857. The case is ruinous, costing around £70,000. In 1833, W is living on Chesterfield St, Mayfair and he is ill. He is in Germany in 1834. Then to his last address at 15 Hertford St, London. He dies of apoplexy/stroke in a tavern in Dublin.
