Macqueen's men including Peter McIntyre were among the first to go beyond the 19 counties of NSW. There is some connection with name Marshall. He and Astley had five children. His own lawyer is named John Beaven. In 1831 Macqueen was interested in a joint bay whaling and banking enterprise (which became Royal Bank of Australasia) for NSW with capital to be £500,000. What is the connection of family with the name Marshall? Macqueen is friends with Richard Hart Davis MP who had made a fortune importing Spanish wool through Bristol. Macqueen's links for interests with Swan River were Thomas Peel, Sir Francis Vincent and Mr Edward Schenley, the last two having "City interests". In late 1828 he and Thomas Peel meet Capt. James Stirling just back from exploring Swan River, WA. One of his own patrons is Sir John Osburn, who is ? Macqueen is an early investor in the AACo, with 90 shares. By end of 1825 he is on board of Irish National Bank, he linked to the London and Bristol Railroad, the Caledonian Asylum, the Columbian Mining Co, Chilean and Peruvian Mining Assoc. and was an auditor of the London Mining Assoc. He is linked to W. S. Davidson re sending 1824-1825 of the ship Hugh Crawford to Australia, most cost borne there by Davidson, p. 6. He and his father had an Indiaman named Macqueen by 1822 or so. In 1817 he joined "the Pitt Club" (?) by when he had developed a great interest in colonization. He had two brothers in the East India army. Macqueen knew Colonel Peter Augustus Latour, as both were in a quasi-military group, the Bedfordshire volunteers, in which both were colonels. Macqueen's mother-in-law is Dame Hester Astley qv. See Butlin on ANZ, p. 22 suggesting that Macqueen's associates re Bank of Australasia were Montefiore family (backed by Rothschilds), one rep of Montefiore in Sydney had a link to D. Furtado in Hobart, and a brother, Jacob Montefiore in London, plus Hon. Henry Ellis, Oliver Farrer, John Wright, Sir Andrew Green. In 1824 he used the ships Nimrod and Hugh Crawford, re the first organised effort to bring free emigrants to NSW. He spent at least £42,000. He had about 160 convicts at Segenhoe. Several of his employees such as the McIntyre Bros, and Peter, John and Donald, Alexander Campbell and Sempill went into New England. Macqueen laid out Aberdeen. In November 1828 he joined Thomas Peel qv, Sir Francis Vincent and E. W. H. Schinley re a large land grant at WA in return for sending 10,000 settlers to Aust. Macqueen offered management of this WA land to Robert Gouger qv, but soon everyone but Peel had backed out of the venture. He helped inspire the Bank of Australasia in London and helped establish the Commercial Banking Co. of Sydney. He sold his English estate to the Duke of Bedford. His own ADB entry.
