Tried to help Lionel Rothschild sit in Parlt, had varied interests in Aust, NZ and Far East, led him to found Smith Magniac and Co., foreunners of Matheson and Co., the London agents of Jardine/Matheson of Hong Kong, he is partner in Smiths from 1834-1845, opted to leave Smith and stay with Magniac, and ends ruined for unclear reasons.
