He as political boss of New York sells/buys land to, to speculators left by Alexander McComb, and to have 3.3 million acres south of St Lawrence River and Burr is also New York lawyer for Holland Land Co., a conglomerate of Dutch banks, buys 1.5 million acres in western New York and 3.5 million acres in Pennsylvania. He is Vice-Pres US and See Chaitkin, Treason in America. Linda Minor says he has brother-in-law Judge Tapping Reeve in Essex Junto at Harvard about 1810, this man set up a duel in which finance politician/writer Alexander Hamilton was killed. Hamilton had backed Jefferson against Burr's candidacy for presidency. His maternal grandparents are famous anti-rationalist theologian Jonathan Edwards husband of Sarah Pierrepont. His family links re Pierrepont were intermarried with JP Morgan family, etc, owner of the New York Times. His parents die when he is young and he goes to live with the Shippens of Philadeplhia. He is is classmate of James Madison and is in patriotic Whigh Society. Chaitkin p. 28 has it that Capt Charles Williamson of Brit intelligence who married to a Connecticut girl, re "Western Conspiracy", who with London financiers buy 1.2 million acres of north-western New York, Wm Pultney an Irish friend of Adam Smith, John Hornby former gov of Bombay (not otherwise listed) and Patrick Colquhuon the London magistrate re Thames water police. The Burr conspiracy was a matter of Burr, a friend of the first US Gov or Louisiana, General James Wilkinson, idea arose of a military adventure to take territory (Mexico) from Spain, Wilkinson is of a party which desired to separate the western American states from the Eastern. Burr stepped down from the vice-presidency and later met Anthony Merry, the British minister to US, re the people of Louisiana wanting independence, Burr asked Britain for a loan of one hundred thousand pounds for the enterprise, which Jefferson later saw as an enterprise against Spain. The enterprise failed. Wilkinson lost his nerve. Jefferson received a letter on Burr's plans from Colonel Morgan, who with his two sons had been invited in on the Burr plan, was shocked, and revealed all. Burr in Virginia was brought before Judge John Marshall. Burr was defended by Attorney Edmund Randolph. Marshall refused to make a charge of treason against Burr. Burr was finally acquitted of treason.
