Dear Mr Byrnes Do you have any problem with my mentioning the above letter in the book which I am currently writing about the loss of the East Indiaman Winterton in 1792 off Madagascar, To cut a long story short, one of the survivors ended up on a ship called the Scorpion which is mentioned in passing in the letter. The letter is my 'proof' that, on ill-fated voyage to England, she called at St Helena. Later she was captured by the French. The Winterton survivor who was on the Scorpion was in fact distantly related to the family of Lord Forbes. He was second cousin to George Dundas of Dundas who was the late captain of the Winterton, and Dundas's mother was a Forbes. If this is of any interest email me and I will share some details.
