C. Wentworth the lawyer. Per e-mail from Richard Quinn in NZ (now deceased) in email of 28-0-2004, It was Simeon Lord (who chartered the Boyd to go from Sydney to NZ and later meet diaster) - which, once his name is mentioned, seems most eminently reasonable - and there are some published refs to it. Like you, I'm busy writing/working. I'll send you some published refs. soon. Richard -- Original Message-----From: Dan Byrnes 28 October 2004 3:13 p.m. arkew@paradise.net.nz - Richard Quin, Re: Message from Richard Quin. Dear Richard, Sorry for slow reply, but I would sure be glad to know who you think chartered the Boyd. No one springs to my mind rapidly. As to whether Samuel Marsden was criminally insane, I suppose, the better your argument, the better the final book. The proposition will cause a stir. And here, I'd want to know, how would such a psychiatric diagnosis fit with his long-term domestic life? Now that would be interesting to go into.Cheers, Dan. --- Original Message -----From: "Richard Quinn" <arkew@paradise.net.nz To: <dan@danbyrnes.com.au Sent: Friday, October 22, 2004 8:52 PM Subject: Message from Richard Quinn Dan, Hi, Dan, I seem to have stumbled over the 'missing link' in the Boyd story - who chartered the ship in NSW after she discharged her living cargo of convicts there. The cargo loaded at NSW was, as I said to you, mainly cedar and coal. She was to discharge that at the Cape, and then carry seal skins home to Blighty. So who was the NSW charterer? I won't play 20 questions - just 1. You know him; so your answer please, on the back of an sae to arkew. If you're wrong, naturally I'll tell you in any event. If you're right, then great (It wasn't Marsden, incidentally). Re the same gentleman: I was reading an indepth article on psychopathology a couple of weeks ago, and started to realise that there were an awful lot of symptons being described that I could relate to SM. Oddly, I was only 'reading for pleasure' at the time, too. So I started delving into the psychiatric journals, and it looks as though SM may well have been criminally insane. I don't kid myself that I'm qualified to make that diagnosis; but I am qualified to be able to say 'that fits'; 'that fits', etc. Funny how data turns up, isn't it, when you aren't even 'aware' that it might; but perhaps that's how we do much of our work. Kind regard, Richard Q who also looks forward to hearing how you are getting on with your mission.
