With Cook, Nootka Sound fur trader Ledyard John-14860 was born in 1751 in Groton CT. He was christened in ,Dickinson. He died in 1789 in Cairo. He is on Cook's third voyage, and his book on those travels was the first great travel story by any American. He is credited with inspiring the US to Nootka fur trade in Gibson, Otter, p. 38-39. See Frost's book on Matra, p. 135, Ledyard is engaged by the English Africa Association (See Banks etc) to go west from the Nile in search of the Niger River; and Ledyard died in Cairo. See Glynn R.
