Third Generation

3. Planter Henrico Co VA Jefferson Thomas Snr-69426 (John , Progenitor ) died in 1697.

Does he descend from Samuel III Jeaffreson? Follows from Virginia Thomson late April 2003 -<http://www.pettistree.suffolk.gov.uk/Jeaffreson.html> Col. John Jeaffreson escaped the infamous Indian Massacre of 1622 at Jamestown, by being away on business for the London Company back in England. In 1624 he and brother, Samuel Jeaffreson II, were asked by friend and neighbor, Sir Thomas Warner, living at Parham some five miles, to accompany him on the ship, "Hopewell" in his adventure to found the Leeward Islands in the West Indies. Samuel II remained there until his death in 1649 and raised a family of two sons, John, born in 1609 and Captain Samuel III, baptized in Pettistree on October 11, 1607. It is from Samuel III that Thomas Jefferson I descends as does his brothers, Richard I and Samuel IV. As we have earlier mentioned, Thomas came to Henrico County, Virginia and became President Jefferson's great grandfather and his two brothers, after spending a few years on the eastern coast of Virginia, moved on into Maryland. Col. John Jeaffreson II decided to return to England and first married Mary Parkyns, daughter of Aden Parkyns, Esq. of Bunney, Nottinghamshire Co., England after his return from St. Kitts Island and they had two children: Mary and Christopher (1650-1725). After Mary's death he married 2nd to Widow Phipps and had stepsons, James and Sir Constantine Phipps. Col. John would later participate in the 1653 Anglo-Dutch Battle by commanding the merchant ship, "William and Mary" with 140 men. Christopher fell heir to the Dullingham Manor in Cambridge after his father's death and married Miss Gamiell, daughter of Col. George Gamiell, who died shortly after their marriage and there were no children. In 1676 he left for St. Kitts in the West Indies, which in 1624 his father, his uncle Samuel II and Sir Thomas Warner had gone to establish. Even though Christopher did not have any children, there were Jeaffreson relatives, including one by the name of Christopher, living at Dullingham House later.
