Descendants of Inglis Progenitor 2013-80135

Fourth Generation

5. Of Kingsmill Inglis George-59260 (Hugh , Robert , Progenitor 2013 ) was born in 1764 in Circa. He died on 19 Aug 1846 in Kingsmill, Inverness,Scotland.

See re his partner George Baillie and also partner brother-in-law Archibald Alves. http www.kittybrewster.com/ At death he has not a lot of money, inc £620 of Bank of England stock. See also Hodson lists. Kingsmill or Kingsmills? Inglis/Willis family tree from Iseke. He is of Inverness, in Chitty letter to Patricia Iseke. Does he have two wives and a son by one named John a half brother of George? This John a partner with S. H. Jenkins of London and a Gibbons, in rice and textile raw materials, was killed by a patriot mob near Charlestown in 1781. This man partner from 1786 with slavers Baillie, Ballantyne and Co of St Vincent plus George Baillie and Archibald Alves [of Demerara]. See articles and website of Dr David Alston of Cromarty for more. E-mail of 29-5-2010 from James Brennan with update. He had children with a free mulatto woman of St Vincent and Demerara. Follows Jim Breenan email of 4/5 Dec 2010 - The Graham who married a Mackenzie of Haiburn didn't, exactly. She was of the family of FAIRBURN (folk who recycle this bit of info are recycling an uncorrected literal about 100 years old. Not much use in itself I grant you). The Grahams of Drynie (just across the firth from Inverness) are hard to disentangle but there is an enormous collection of papers in the NAS and even the catalogue (which is online) helps to sort them out a bit. The Charles Graham who died in 1803 (from memory) was, I think, the merchant element in an essentially military family. Both the merchant and military sides were fairly widespread in their links - there were members in various generations in the Scots regiment in Holland, and the Black Watch, and also in the force which defended West Florida and Pensacola against the Spanish in 1781. details follow, when I can check them. Col John MacGillivray, cousin of Lachlan MacGillivray, wrote his last will before sailing for Jamaica at the end of 1786 at Davidson and Graham's London Office and Graham was an executor, along with William Inglis in Inverness, half brother of Alexander Inglis (Charleston SC), nephew of George Inglis (Inglis and Hall Savvannah Ga, who died at Stono SC in the early 1780s), and brother of George Inglis,( partner of Archibald Alves, George Baillie and a Bannatyne in St Vincent (see the Slaves and Highlanders website by David Alston for much useful stuff about Alveses in Demerara)). MacGillivray had been based in Mobile, at the other end of a trail from Augusta, Georgia. in the opening up which Lachlan and earlier MacGillivrays had played a significant part. At one stage Charles Graham's military kinsman had been based at Mobile, but was later posted to St Augustine in Florida. At independence he and Lachlan merged their capital (Lachlan over 60 by then) and made what seems to have ben a joint Loyalist compensation claim which came through in 1786. John then established an annuity to support Lachlan which turned out to be first claim on his estate. He died one day out from Port Royal on a Liverpool bound Lancaster slaver at the end of 1787. I'll send a more detailed and checked account when I can - this is from memory and I don't have much hard stuff handy. In any case I have a bad conscience about research I was going to do for you and haven't yet been able to. I might, just get some of it done in the new year, if I can get my legs working properly. Best wishes Jim Brennan David Alston spanglefish website on Slaves and Highlanders. He is with plantations on Demerara, Bellefield and Phoenix Park. He had some children by a free mulatto woman.
