At William and Mary College he became friends with TJ, later TJ fell in love with "fair Belinda" = Rebecca Burwell, who later married Jacquelin Ambler. When he died he was the largest slave owner in his area, owning 160 slaves, yet thought he had spent his life in the pursuit of liberty. With second wife Lowther he has eight children.
