He becomes friends with Jefferson when Jefferson is in Paris. He is a French Royalist favouring a constitutional monarchy and is inspector general of commerce under Louis XVI. He is regarded as a liberal economist, author and editor. He is said to know Madame Germaine de Stael, dr of Jacques Necker. He has an uncle, watchmaker, Pierre de Monchantin. His mother dies when he is 16. The Co gets its saltpetre from Thomas Davy and Josiah Roberts of London eg., in 1808. He is said at age 23 to have produced works on finance which impressed de Quesnay of the French Physiocrats. It is said that Alexander Hamilton is this man's lawyer. He had about 705 direct descendants.
