Bankrupt by 1778 due to debts associated with the American war. After this he went to US as an agent for financiers such as Pieter Stadinksi, and Nicholas and Jacob van Staphorst, P&C van Eeghen, Ten Cate and Vollenhoven. he employed US advisors such as Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, and he dealt with James Wilson re Pennsylvania lands. Cazenovia in New York is probably named for him as he was agent and financier for Holland Land Co and helped purchase millions of acres of land of New York and Pennsylvania.
