4. Lord Treasury Proprietor Maryland Lord1 Baltimore Calvert George-36649 (Leonard , John , Progenitor ) was born in 1578 in Circa. He died on 15 Apr 1632. He was buried in St Dunstan's,In West,London.

See Hervey on Arundel, p. 223, he is a Yorkshireman, travelled abroad, sec to Sir Robert Cecil, then succeeded to Cecil's office, he is knighted in 1617 and created Lord Baltimore in 1625, he upheld the Spanish Marriage, opposed war with Spain, he was friends with Arundel. (Both Catholic). Encyc = Baron 1 Baltimore, Oxford educated, in 1606 is private sec to Sir Rbt Cecil the sec of state, by 1619 is himself a sec of state and member Privy Council, defended James I in Parlt, a Catholic too, so became Baron Baltimore, already a member of Virginia Co, and on council of New England Co, wanted to found his own colony so set up a Newfoundland colony, Avalon, spent money on it to no avail, so from 1629 he wanted somewhere better, south, so in 1632 given land north of Potomac, which became Maryland, he died before his charter could be accepted, it went to his son Cecilius. George married (1) wife1 Mynne Anne-36650 daughter of Mynne George-47168 and Wroth Elizabeth-112553. Anne died on 8 Aug 1622.

He is governor of Maryland 1660-1661.
