3. Sec AACo, Stockbroker BARTON William-32146 (Mr , Progenitor Barton of NSW ) was born in 1796 in Circa,England. He died on 6 May 1881 in Redfern.
His own entry in Salsbury/Sweeney, p. 36. on p. 5, wealth or social standing not condition of entry to stock exchange, though by 1870s NSW did have makings of an elite, eg Macarthurs, Icelys and Lambs, however, ALL the original members of the Sydney Stock Exchange came from NSW middle or lower middle class at time of entry to exchange, and had accumulated little wealth. On p. 4, the 1870s pattern grew stockbroking dynasties, with names Brownhill, Buckle, Burrows, Cooper, Cran, Degenhardt, Furner, Harriman, Hattersley, Hordern, Jackson, King, Lloyd, McFayden, Minnett, Polkinghorne, Reynolds, Steel, Smith, Tilley and White. On p. 3 of Salsbury/Sweeney on Sydney Stockholders, emphasis on family, and in its first decade, the 1870s, the Sydney stock exchange was 31 men from nine family groupings being Bain, Cape, Chatfield, Fattorini, Mullens, Palmer, North, Rodd and Thompson. William married WHYDA Mary Louisa-32147 daughter of WHYDAH Progenitor-86174 and WNOTKNOWN Miss-69400 in 1827 in Circa. Mary died on 14 Jun 1872.
