He is Governor Muscovy Co. in 1580 in one http. Hamel, p. 157 says this man with [Wm] from 1553 helped finance a voyage to Guinea, with vessels loaned by the king and on this voyage Capt Wyndham failed. Garrard Hamel, p. 151 says by 1557 there are 140 Russia Co investors/merchants in London inclucing John Dimmock a member of Drapers' Co. Hamel, p. 109 names founders after 1554 of Russia Co as six nobles including Wm Howard Lord High Admiral and Earl of Effingham, Sebastian Cabot, Sir Henry Sidney, Sir Wm Cecil, Sir William Peter, Sir George Barne(s), William Gerard, Thomas Offley the elder, John Dymock, and since they had been in Russia, Richard Chancellor, Stephen Burrough, John Buckland, Arthur Edwards, George Burton, Thomas Banister, John Sparke (Hamel p. 211 says Sparke one of four men to Persia with Arthur Edwards). He is Gov of MuscovyCo, 1580 and 1583. He had eight sons including William. Is Hasler confused her, as it seems Barne is both father-in-law and son-in-law of Walsingham. He has son1 William. His father of same name is also Lord mayor of London plus founder member of Muscovy Co. this son inherited trade links plus govt links. and has a brother-in-law in Walsingham. and in 1577 the Privy Council sought his opijon on setting up a co to pursue Spanish trade.
